City Project

Students in Year 9 also take part in the City CHALLEN9E – a cross-curriculum program that includes an experiential week of learning and discovery in the city designed to build student confidence, team skills, cooperative learning, problem solving skills and a range of life skills.

Students focus on an area of investigation which they undertake in groups of 4-5 students, and complete a range of lead-up and follow-up activities in their core subjects, followed by research during their week in the city. Students also visit a range of venues, including the Museum, MCG, the Shrine, Old Melbourne Gaol, and Eureka Tower and complete a range of group activities. The program occurs towards the end of Term 3.

Upon their return to school, students continue undertaking their investigation, culminating in an Exhibition in Term 4 to showcase and celebrate their group work.
