Music Program
Concert Band
Concert Bands consist of Flutes, Oboes, Clarinets, Bassoon, Saxophones, French Horn, Trumpets, Trombones, Euphonium, Tubas, String Bass, Double Bass, Piano and various Percussion. Concert Bands have about 60 students participating. There are four Concert Bands in the program, Training, Junior, Intermediate, and the Senior Symphonic Band. Students’ progress through these bands by audition at the end of each year.
Concert Bands perform at two College concerts each year as well as participating in the Royal South St. Competition in Ballarat, Melbourne Bands Festival and various other College functions and local community events.
Stage Bands
An extra program for selected students is the renowned College Stage Band program. Stage Bands have up to 20 members.
Stage Bands consist of Saxophones, Trumpets, Trombones, Bass, Guitar, Piano and Percussion. There are four Stage Bands in the program, Training, Junior, Intermediate, and the Senior Stage Band.
All four bands compete in the Melbourne Bands Festival, Junior, Intermediate and Senior Stage Bands compete at Mt Gambier National Stage Band competitions (Generations in Jazz) each year. In the past the Intermediate Band has been National Champions in their division and Senior Stage Band have been the top band at Melbourne Bands Festival. Stage Bands also perform at the College Jazz Night and, by invitation, to Jazz Nights throughout the Melbourne metropolitan area.
Music Handbook
Ringwood Secondary College is a Performing Arts School. We are proud of the outstanding reputation forged over many years in music participation and performance.
For new students to the College this handbook serves as a guide to the Music Department and the opportunities it offers in classroom and instrumental music.
For continuing students, it is a reminder of important dates as well as the ongoing responsibilities to their teachers and ensembles.
Students have opportunities to:
- Perform at both state and national level in competitions and festivals
- Become part of the renowned school production in August
- Participate in the weeklong State Band Tour in October
