About Our Sports Program
Ringwood has a proud tradition in sport and strong participation by students in the College sports program. The College competes in the School Sport Victoria competitions within the Maroondah Division, Eastern Region and State level sports. Over many years, the College has been highly successful in the Maroondah Sports Division winning the last 20 years of Swimming Championships, Cross Country titles and Athletics Championships.
We have a number of students who have represented the College at both the region and state levels of competition. We also are highly successful as a team event, consistently finishing in the top 3 at all region events.
Students are encouraged to participate in sports of their choice, with over 150 teams entered in competitions throughout the year. During the course of the year over 1,000 students are involved in at least one sporting team or Carnival Day.
We offer many team sports for students to play, such as Basketball, Cricket and Hockey through to Table Tennis, Tennis, Soccer and Volleyball. Other sports such as Equestrian, Squash, Golf, Lacrosse, Touch Footy and Cycling/BMX are run on demand.
In 2023, we have had two State Champion teams. Our Year 8 Boys and Senior Girls Table Tennis teams were crowned State Champions!
Features of the Sports Program
Our Sport Prefects and Sport Captains provide leadership in the program and have visited elite sporting programs such as the Victorian Institute of Sport, Melbourne Rebels Rugby Union team, Melbourne Track Classic and have met with Australian Olympians.
We host annual College Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics Carnival where students compete in a house based competition for shields and the overall House Cup.
We offer lunchtime sporting activities, training and coaching. There is also lunchtime and after school training for students and interested sport teams prior to Division, Region and State Athletics, Swimming and Cross Country Championships and interschool sports.
Sporting Hall of Fame
The College has also established a Sporting Hall of Fame that recognises the achievements of past and present students and includes many Australian representatives and sports people who have reached the pinnacle of their sport.
The Hall of Fame currently includes over 50 past students and new inductees are added each year at the Sporting Hall of Fame breakfast.
